Interview with Arnaud Boetsch the first T he Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping is unique. As a combination of the traditional shows in Aachen, Spruce Meadows and Geneva, it is the ultimate equestrian sport challenge. The first rider to triumph, in other words the first rider to win the Rolex Grand Prix at all three events within twelve months, will write history and become a living equestrian sport legend. We spoke to Arnaud Boetsch, Director Communication & Image Rolex, about the first year of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. A year of the Rolex Grand Slam – what is your initial appraisal? It has been a resounding success, setting a very high standard for the sport. We are so thrilled to be a part of such an important equestrian initiative, in which both horse and rider now have the opportunity to prove their skill at the pinnacle of show jumping. What is the response from the spectators, athletes and media? From the moment the creation of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping was announced, the response has been extremely positive from all sides – be it from the spectators, the athletes or the media. The overall feedback has been enthusiastic and immensely appreciative. Equestrianism now has a truly Major-level challenge with global resonance, where the world’s top riders can hone their skills and strive for ever-greater acclaim. The sport’s loyal following can witness the very best that show jumping has to offer and follow an exciting contest over the year between great competitors. It’s a yardstick for the finest. Aachen, Spruce Meadows, Geneva – how did you find the individual shows? I was really impressed by each of the shows, the size of the venue, the number of people that gathered to watch, and by the preparations and organization that went into the inaugural year of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. It was clear that each one of these shows is at the pinnacle of the sport, and they are coming together to create a truly unique experience for everyone who takes part. One of the highlights was definitely Rolex Testimonee Steve Guerdat’s impressive win at the Rolex Grand Prix in Geneva, his home turf, as well as the international headquarters of Rolex. We were so proud to see a member of our family of Testimonees win such a prestigious title here. Clearly, these are Major events in equestrianism. They are a priority for each of the riders, whose performances, more than ever, demonstrate extreme excellence, precision and skill. What was the idea behind the Rolex Grand Slam? The joint creation by the three shows was devised as a means to set the year 11
