The CHIO Aachen, often described as The Championships, Wimbledon of the equestrian world, returns from June 27 to July 6 2025, and is the second Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping Major of the calendar year. This iconic event draws over 370,000 spectators across ten unforgettable days at the historic Soers showgrounds to witness elite competition across five disciplines – show jumping, dressage, eventing, vaulting and driving – as well as experiencing vibrant culture and tradition.
This year’s edition celebrates Spain as the official partner country under the theme “Hola España”, bringing a lively Spanish flair to the event. The show’s Opening Ceremony on Tuesday 1 July will transform the iconic Main Stadium into a colourful celebration of Spanish culture with flamenco dancers, a live concert by Spanish pop star Álvaro Soler, and a captivating performance by the renowned Andalusian horses from “Cordoba Ecuestre”. Spanish influences will be woven throughout the entire event, including the beloved “Horse & Symphony” concerts on June 27 and 28, where orchestral music intertwines with breathtaking equestrian displays.
Five-star show jumping action begins on Wednesday 2 July, with the Turkish Airlines-Prize of Europe, a thrilling evening competition under the floodlights that also serves as the first chance to qualify for the prestigious Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen. On Thursday 3 July the Mercedes-Benz Nations’ Cup will see eight of the world’s top national teams battling it out in a high-stakes contest that promises world-class action.
The anticipation then builds towards the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday 6 July, the pinnacle class of the event, drawing a crowd of 40,000 passionate fans eager to witness the world’s best riders compete for one of the sport’s most coveted titles. Much like a golfer claiming the Masters Trophy in Augusta, this is the competition that every show jumper dreams of winning, and it remains a cornerstone of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping. German rider André Thieme, who claimed the title in 2024 with his brilliant mare DSP Chakaria, will be determined to defend his crown against a field of top contenders. Among them is Swiss star Steve Guerdat, a legend in the sport, who returns to the CHIO Aachen after missing The Dutch Masters due to injury and is determined to add this prestigious win to his already impressive record.
The dressage competition will be equally captivating, with the Lindt-Prize showcasing exceptional harmony and precision. German icon and Rolex Testimonee Isabell Werth will once again be looking to claim this prestigious prize. It is tradition for the vaulters to battle it out in the Prize of Sparkasse on the first weekend of the show, whereas eventing fans can look forward to the UBS-Cup, which begins with dressage and show jumping on Friday 4 July, followed by the adrenaline-fueled cross-country phase on Saturday, offering an exceptional display of athleticism and strategy. The driving competitions also promise to captivate audiences, with the Prize of Schwartz Group Marathon providing high-octane excitement as the world’s best four-in-hand drivers tackle a challenging course that demands both exactness and speed.
Beyond the elite competition, the CHIO Aachen 2025 truly embraces the community spirit, showcased by “Soers Sunday” on June 29 where the showground is open to the public for a day of free admission. Throughout the event, visitors can explore the bustling shopping village, indulge in gourmet dining, and discover Spanish-themed exhibitions that highlight the festival’s partner country.
As the competition draws to a close on Sunday 6 July, the emotional farewell ceremony will bring together spectators and participants in a beloved tradition that has been part of the CHIO Aachen since 1953. With white handkerchiefs waving to the nostalgic tune of “Muss I Denn,” this poignant moment captures the unity and spirit that define the CHIO Aachen experience. With its seamless blend of world-class sport, vibrant cultural festivities, and a warm community atmosphere, the CHIO Aachen promises to be an unforgettable event in the equestrian calendar.
